Today has been a magic day! It is one of those special days where I spend all my time in the kitchen preparing treats and giveaways for all of my loved ones! Christmas music is streaming from the stereo, sweet carols and aromatic flavours are mixing in the air and I feel so creative and happy. I love it!
This year I had planned to do jars as mentioned in this post. But something happened… A kind soul introduced me to a wonderful recipe; a nordic blueberry glögg from Green Kitchen Stories (who else). It is the absolute best glögg I have ever tasted and it is very easy to make and therefore a perfect Christmas giveaway. You can find the recipe here.
Besides the blueberry glögg I have been making my own version of Christmas sweets. Christmas sweets with marzipan, nougat, dark chocolate and lots of aromatic flavours. I always use the best organic marzipan I can find, a dark and rich chocolate and some beautiful sprinkles which are of course all natural. This means no synthetic sugary stuff that looks fake. This year I went with freeze dried raspberry & sea buckthorn and some roasted hazelnuts – which add new flavours and make it look very beautiful!
In the marzipan I have added vanilla and orange zest to make it a little more aromatic. In some of the sweets I placed a chickpea sized ball of nougat just to add a little extra surprise. Some of the sweets are dipped in chocolate and rolled in finely chopped hazelnuts. This version actually reminds me a bit of Ferrero Rocher which makes it even more delicious.
I have used these beautiful sweets to add a little twist to my wrapping. I made small goodie bags with 6 pieces of these chocolate dipped wonders and attached one to each gift. This makes the gifts look even more inviting and I love to add a little personal touch like this – my kind of card!

Chocolate covered Christmas sweets w. orange flavoured marzipan & nougat
Makes 30-40 pieces12 oz high quality marzipan (300 g)
2,6 oz nougat (75 g)
Zest from 1 organic orange
Vanilla beans from 0,5 vanilla pod
5 oz dark chocolate 70 % (150 g)
Freeze dried berries and/or sea buckthorn
Roasted hazelnuts (How to roast hazelnuts here)
1. Knead orange zest and vanilla into the marzipan. Cut the nougat into small chickpea sized pieces.
2. Take 1 teaspoon of marzipan and use your thumbs to flatten it a bit. Then take a piece of nougat and wrap it in the marzipan and gently roll the ball in your palms. Place it on a piece of parchment and proceed until the marzipan and nougat are used.
3. Use a double boiler to melt the chocolate. Coat all of the balls with chocolate and use the topping to make different sweets. If you want to make a Ferrero Rocher version then chop the hazelnuts very fine and roll the the chocolate dipped sweets in it.
4. Set the sweets a side to let the chocolate dry, and then pack them into goodie bags or just enjoy, Enjoy ENJOY ♥
