If you don’t believe me when I tell you that my family and I absolutely worship samosas, just wait until I reel off the list of uniquely delicious sides I’ve compiled over the years to pair with them as proof!
I’m never without a supply of these spicy dumplings.
With their origins steeped in traditional Indian cuisine, you know they’re loaded with fabulous, spicy flavors. But the great thing is you can fill them with whatever you like.
We aren’t here to sing the praises of samosas right now, rather, we’re going to delve into some of the most original dips, authentic soups, and other amazing sides that will make your samosas really stand out at parties, celebrations, or even a Friday night movie night!
So enough of my chattering and let’s dive into what goes with samosas!
1.Tamarind and Mint Chutney
I love serving these two delightful dips side by side with samosas because they offer a nice combination of sweet and spicy.
In fact, they are THE sauces to serve with these crispy treats. Each one takes only about 5 minutes to make in the food processor, super easy!
With their fresh ingredients, they are both low calories, vegan, and definitely sure to please a dietary diverse crowd!
2.Cucumber and Tomato Salad
Made with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, and an oil and vinegar dressing, this simple yet elegant salad goes great with samosas.
It takes less than 10 minutes to chop and toss together, and is healthy and vegan friendly. Feel free to add cheese, chickpeas, or anything else that strikes your fancy!
3.Cucumber Raita
This savory condiment can be served as a dip for samosas, or baked right into the filling. Made with cucumbers, yogurt, roasted cumin powder, and other delicious spices, all you need to do is a little grating and whisking and, like magic, there’s a unique accompaniment for your samosas.
4.Chole (Chickpea Curry)
Curry is a staple of Indian cuisine, and I can attest it doesn’t get much better than this beautifully earth toned chickpea recipe.
I like to make it on the stovetop, but a pressure cooker can also be used. Simply toss in the chickpeas along with tomato purée, red onions, ginger garlic paste, cumin, and some other spices.
Let it simmer for an hour and samosa snacks have now transformed into a full on nutritious meal!
5.Achar (Indian Pickles)
So, these are not only traditional pickled cucumbers, rather a tasty combination of cauliflower, carrots, and cucumber that, when mixed together in the samba (pickling juice), takes only 10 minutes to cook.
I promise you’ll love the layered flavors of sesame and peanut along with the fresh veggies and spices.
6.Jeera Rice
This fragrant basmati rice can be made sticky or fluffy according to your taste. The best part is, it’s totally easy to whip up in just over 30 minutes.
Just sauté the jeera (cumin seeds) along with some cloves, green chilies, cardomom, and bay leaves. Add in water and rice, and you’ll have an upscale original rice dish to serve with samosas.
7.Masala Chai
I love settling in on the couch with a big cup of this rich and creamy masala chai tea and some crunchy samosas. The combination is positively decadent.
The best part is, while the tea is brewing, the fresh black leaves, cardamom, and jaggery (sweetener) will make your house as fragrant as any spice shop in India!
8.Tomato Shorba
This tangy take on tomato soup is gluten-free, low in calories, and takes only 20 minutes from start to finish. The vibrant color is made possible by the delicious ingredients of tomato, cumin, ginger, red chili powder, and coriander. Personally, I love dipping my samosas right in the soup, but that’s up to you!
9.Parotta
This crispy, flaky flatbread is an easy to make buttery delight. It goes great with samosas and dips. Use a hand mixer to knead the dough and let it sit for 30 minutes before cooking in a cast iron skillet.
10.Gulab Jamun
This classic Indian dessert is similar to flan, but the milk solids, sugar, rose water, and cardamom are first kneaded then rolled into little balls.
I fry mine in a pan and know they’re done when the sweet syrup forms on the bottom. It’s a tasty after-dinner snack after a meal where samosas are center stage.
